Enjoy Music for Life!
Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic Devi is now offering ZOOM lessons to all of her students! Its easy and Devi can help you every step of the way.
Please contact Devi for more info.
What will students learn?
Whilst the lessons are and should be fun, I also pride myself in laying a strong foundation for each student in:
• Technique
• Theory
• Scales
• Chords
• Musicality
• Composition
• Timing
• Creativity
• A range of different styles from classical through to modern styles.
Where are lessons held?
I like lessons to be held in a relaxed and stress free environment and where I have access to both an electric piano and a grand piano. For this reason lessons are generally held in my home at Woodford in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia.
What ages do you teach?
All ages! I have taught children as young as 4 and as mature as 75! Whether you are a brand new beginner, returning to the piano after many years break, been learning by yourself for awhile or looking for a new teacher I can help you to achieve your goals.
How long does a lesson go for and how much does it cost?
This depends on your age, and your goals. Lessons are generally 1/2 hour, 45 minutes or 1 hour.
Call or email to discuss prices. Cost is reasonable and within the industry standard. Payment plans are also available.
I will be able to assess you during the first free consultation lesson as to how long the lesson should be to start with and we can discuss price from there.
What about exams?
Many of my students choose to do exams and I am happy to help them through this process. I take students through Trinity College, ANZCA, or the AMEB syllabus. Over the years everyone of my students have achieved excellent results with either honours or merit results and I am there to help them every step of the way.
What if I’m not interested in exams?
That’s fine! Many of my students choose not to sit for exams for multiple reasons. Instead we may focus on improvisational skills , learning music that you choose or working on your very own composition including a little bit of technology if required so I can teach you how to type set your very own piano compositions!

My Philosophy
To me, being a pianist or a musician of any kind is about expressing the music, learning how to listen and to be creative. I love the idea of helping my students play music for the rest of their lives – whether it be professionally or privately for themselves.
Music is the food of the soul and is such an integral part our lives. It is the universal language and will bring you joy for the rest of your life.
My Story
Coming from a long line of musicians and artists, Devi started studying classical piano at the age of five under the tutelage of her mother – well known teacher and composer, Natasha Ivanovsky Perkins.”
In recent years, my passion for the piano and music has been reignited. I am excited to bring an eclectic mix of world music, blues, jazz and classical music into the 21st century, creating music that is romantic, passionate and multilayered. I am proud to say, a few of my recent pieces have been picked for the ANZCA syllabus (grade 6 and 7).
I still travel the world teaching and performing dance and have most recently started performing my own piano compositions for well known dancers around the world including Australia, China, Japan and the USA.
Most recently, I’ve been enjoying collaborating with other musicians on several different projects and composing . These shall be available on all the usual platforms sometime in 2020 so keep watching this space for more information.
I have published my first book of compositions “Five Eclectic Pieces for Piano”, please contact me at devimamak@ghawazicaravan.com or phone +61 419184231 or purchase online below.
